Dog Breeding Info & Advice: All In One Place
If you want to breed dogs ethically and responsibly, then you don’t want to be taking dog breeding advice from just anyone.
I’m Rebecca Walters, founder of Pupstarts Breeders. I’m a 5-star licensed dog breeder, an ex-licensing officer, and a woman committed to changing the industry for good.
I want to deliver all the dog breeding information, advice and education you need to be an ethical and reputable dog breeder who makes a difference in the world.
I have been breeding puppies and raising them using tried and tested socialisation techniques for over 16 years now.
My puppies are bred from parents who have undergone selective health and temperament testing, and my litters are raised with love and science to ensure they are prepared for the world.
My puppies are homed to well-prepared owners who have appropriate homes and lifestyles for a dog.
They leave for their new homes with the backup of my promise that they will never have an uncertain future like so many others do.
But, let’s rewind a little further back
And that’s why I know just how important it is to get breeding and raising your puppies right from the very start.
Let’s talk about Errol
At the ripe age of 16, I was fortunate enough to undertake my work experience at Battersea Dogs Home. I can honestly say that my time there opened my eyes, broke my heart, and exposed me to “the other side” of the dog world.
His name was Errol. He was a two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He had been a stray, and he had been in the kennels for a while. He was dog aggressive and anxious around men.
Errol had little in the way of basic training, and he was a strong, muscled ball of energy.
No one wanted him.
Although Battersea Dogs Home do all they can to address issues with the dogs they have, they were, and still are, overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of unwanted dogs.
Errol’s issues were deemed too ingrained to be able to rehome him, and Errol was put to sleep. He walked out of his kennel for the last time, wagging his tail, and he was dead a few minutes later.
No fuss, no drama, the end.
Errol had been failed on a number of levels.
Errol was then sold to an inappropriate and likely ill-prepared owner.
Finally, Errol was dumped when it all got a bit difficult, and they could no longer cope with a “problem dog”.
It’s time to break the cycle
But I disagree. We have to break the cycle. The cycle that delivers these dogs into rescue in the first place.
Why do these dogs end up in rescue? As a result of poorly planned or badly executed breeding, inadequate matching of pups with owners, and a lack of early support for new puppy owners when they need it most.
We all know those early months are formative in our dog’s lives. But, if we put the hard graft in early on, then it will pay off dividends for years to come. And that’s how we stop more dogs from ending up in kennels, awaiting rescue or succumbing to a horrific fate.
Their paws are in our hands, and it’s up to us to raise the standards and take the lead.
The Pupstart’s Motto: Their paws, in your hands
Being an ethical and reputable dog breeder means that you recognise and appreciate your influence on the lives ahead of the paws who rely on you.
There simply isn’t enough accessible information for dog breeders who want to breed, whelp and raise puppies to the highest standards.
So I have created the ultimate range of dog breeding courses to make it possible for you to achieve your dreams and breed as safely and ethically as possible. You can make a positive impact on the future of our next generation of dogs.
Dog breeders have the power to evoke incredible change for dogs everywhere.
Each and every dog’s life starts in the hands of a person. The vast majority of things that go wrong are not through bad intentions but through lack of support and accessible information.
The time has come to shape and educate the industry for the good of the dogs within it.
Our Vision – The pathway for ethical dog breeding
The Pupstarts Pathway gives breeders straightforward access to current advice on dog breeding and whelping.
We then progress with the most up to date methods of puppy raising to enable more puppies to be robust and ready for the world.
